Our Traditions

At PS 19 EVCS, we value coming together as a community. Our school year is filled with many opportunities for families and loved ones to join us in classroom to celebrate our learning, for students across grades to develop long lasting friendships, and for our community as a whole to support others in our neighborhood.

SWMM

Together in our auditorium, we gather to sing loud and proud at School Wide Morning Meeting (SWMM).  Families are invited to join us for this monthly morning meeting.  At each SWMM, a class will share something they're working on in music class and we will spend time together as a community.

Family Shares

Every month, we invite families to come into our classrooms and see what we’re doing!  We might read together, play a math game, or celebrate the end of a writing unit.  We are partners with our families, and we spend time each month learning together.

Winter Festival

Our students share their musical talents with an annual celebration of the Winter Solstice.  This performance takes place in our auditorium the last week of December during the school day, and we invite families to hear our students sing and play instruments.

Harvest Festival

Every fall we celebrate the importance of food in so many of our family’s traditions and gather what we can to donate to the local food pantry.  This month-long collection is a time to learn about food insecurity, the joy food can bring us, and help others in our community.

Spring Talent Show

All students are invited to share their talents in the annual PS19 EVCS Talent Show.  This event takes place on an evening each spring so that everyone can join in on the fun.

Family Fun Night

An annual tradition where families gather to play games, sing karaoke, make arts-and-crafts, and more!  It's a casual event that brings our community together.

Reading Buddies

All students at PS19 EVCS are buddied up with another child within our school.  These buddies are from different grades, creating a cross-school connection.  They meet up with their buddy to read, share what they’re learning, and create friendships.  Our younger students learn from their older buddies, while our older students become mentors and role models to their younger buddies.

MAPS Opening Project

Working with Music-Art-Puppets-Sound, kids buddy up with older and younger students to fill our hallways with art that will be celebrated all year long.  Students create friendships across the grade as they work together to make something beautiful.

Field Day

Each spring, we come together to play in the sunshine as a school community.  We picnic on the grass and play friendly games and explore the beauty of being outside for a day together.  Families are invited to join this day of fun.

Library Family Hour

Each month, our library is open for families to cozy up and read together!  Stay for as long as you'd like during this monthly hour and see what's on our shelves!

Family Potlucks

Throughout the year we gather to break bread and enjoy a meal as a community.  Held 2-3 times each year, we celebrate our cultural heritages and have dinner together.

Author Visits

In partnership with the PS19 EVCS Parents Association, all students meet authors and illustrators. This meaningful experience allows kids to ask questions not just about books they love but also the process of being a creator of books.
