We have many on & off-site programs and partnerships. Below are just some of the programs PS19 EVCS kids get to join.

 

Enrichment Programs

After School

Electives

All 4th & 5th-grade students can choose what to study each Tuesday. This year, students can choose from Rock Band, Chess, Computer Programming, Basketball, Paleontology, Clarinet, Trumpet, and 3D Art.

Alvin Ailey

All students in grades 4 & 5 have an 8-week residency of West African dance classes with live musicians and dance instructors from the world famous Alvin Ailey dance company. Students perform on stage at the end of this program.

Chess Quarter

Through regular instruction, students gain confidence, learn focus and determination, and improve their problem-solving skills.  Students in 2nd and 3rd grade have weekly chess instruction and students in 1st-5th grades can sign up for additional chess instruction after school.

Service Learning Project 

Our 5th graders work to make the world a better place through service.  Working with SLP, students uncover problems and injustices in our community and then create plans to improve our world.

Jazz

Students in 2nd through 5th grade have regular opportunities to hear jazz musicians from Lincoln Center perform in our very own auditorium.  This program complements their learning in weekly music classes and inspires the next generation of musicians.

Teachers & Writers Collaborative

Students in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th–grade engage in a 2-month poetry study with professional writers and poets from New York City.  This study allows students to express their feelings and noticings through creative writing while also learning a variety of writing techniques.

Music, Arts, Puppets, Sound (MAPS)

Students in 3K, PreK, Kindergarten, and 1st-grade dive into project work with MAPS, using a variety of artistic techniques to tell stories, be creative, and connect art to their science and social studies learning.

ASD NEST Program

The Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) Nest program is a specialized program that serves some students with autism. The program is a partnership between the DOE and New York University’s (NYU) ASD Nest Support Project.  Each program works to strengthen academic and social skills.
